About Us

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Nelson Painting.

Nelson Painting is a family-owned and operated business that has served residential and commercial clients in Marin County and San Francisco for more than 20 years. Owner Nelson Scott was raised in Marin County, and his first apprenticeship in home building was with De Witt Appleton Construction at age twelve.

Nelson’s career in construction included numerous home demolition and remodeling projects, along with commercial framing. During the earthquake retrofitting of the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House, Nelson worked for Taylor Stokes Electric to rewire and clean the Starburst chandelier. He also helped with the San Francisco City Hall lighting restoration that included a rush order for Mayor Willie Brown. Today, Nelson’s understanding of construction helps him be an integral part of any subcontractor team.

Passion and Quality

In 1991, Nelson turned his attention solely to painting after a 5-year apprenticeship with his uncle, Gary Appleton, at the Cove Apartments in Tiburon. Nelson is part of every Nelson Painting team and personally ensures that every project is completed with the highest standard of quality. He is particularly passionate about transforming old, tired spaces and structures into something beautiful and glorious. His goal is to make every painting project an enjoyable experience for his clients.

Nelson has painted homes and businesses throughout Marin County, including: the Mill Valley Book Depot, the new Sweetwater Music Hall and has participated in countless new construction and remodeling projects. Through contracting with Marin Housing to paint units in Marin City, Nelson found a way to give back to a community in need. He has donated his time and resources to the Phoenix Foundation, working with Felicia Gadston, to help Marin City’s at risk youth.

Nelson relishes his life as a painting contractor, husband and father in Marin County. He lives with his family and Sir Isaac Newton (company mascot) in a waterfront home in Waldo Point in Sausalito. When he is not bringing tired buildings back to life through painting or restoration, he enjoys yoga, meditation and Feng Shui.

We look forward to meeting you and addressing your painting needs in the future.”
